2013 'T' Themed fancy dress, T-bird and Tinkerbell (My dress is missguided)
Yesterday, I posted my 2012 reflections post (just below this one if you haven't had a peek already), and to sum up, 2012 was a year of learning, love and change. It was an eventful year but a lovely one none the less. However this year, I want to make a few resolutions, some serious and some not so, to ensure this year's even better than the last!
I bought in 2012 dancing with Darren and as cheesy as it is, I remember thinking that 2012 would be 'our year' and it really was. 2013 started the same way (albeit with a very poorly Darren at 2am after one too many drinks trying to keep up with an Irish couple! But at least I got a midnight kiss and a few dances in before this). There's something about new years, it feels like everything is suddenly brand new, like you can leave everything that happened last year behind, which brings me to my first resolution.
Forgive and Forget
This resolution is one I've decided upon purely for the fact that it's something I wish others could've done for me. A couple of once important people are no longer in my life following events from 2011 and 2012, some my fault, some not. But the fact is, no matter who did what, at the end of the day (or year, in my case!) it doesn't matter, what's done is done and sometimes it's a lot easier to just forgive and forget. Sometimes things you've done or others have done aren't as bad as they seem, you need to look at the bigger picture before getting angry at someone. Dwelling on the past will only make you more upset and angry and there's no need to put yourself through that.
Let It Be
I even got a tattoo last year that reflects this. I am trying to live by my tattoo 'this too shall pass' and the phrase 'let it be'. Which I'd also liked to get tattooed but I'm not sure and that's a whole other story. Anyway, this year, I want to just be able to let things go and realise that no matter what is happening, good or bad, it will come to an end. So if I'm having a bad day, I will 'let it be' and remember that it will soon be over, because some things you just can't change, no matter how much you may want to. This also applies to lovely days, if it's a great day, I'll make the most of it while it lasts, because even the tiniest happy moments should be cherished. I want to learn to not sweat the small stuff, not worry if my hair won't go right one day or my nails aren't perfectly painted or if I have to work an extra hour, in the long run, it won't matter. I will ask myself 'Will this matter tomorrow/ next week/ next month/ next year?' If the answer is no, then it doesn't matter now.
I Love You
This year, I want to make a huge effort to show the ones I love how much I appreciate them. This includes friends, family, my boyfriend and of course my lovely followers. Whether it be a little gift for no reason, a hug, or even just a simple nice blog/ facebook comment. I started this yesterday by finding an old book that me and Darren had written in together when we'd only been together about a month and tearing out all the pages we'd drawn on and writing silly notes on the back of them and putting them in an envelope so he can look back at them and remember. It was such a cheesy and simple thing but he really loved it, it seemed like he'd made a similar resolution too as he turned up after work with lovely pink roses for me - we're old romantics at heart!
I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know what your resolutions are! xo
P.S, Sometimes I can't reply to blog post comments or people don't see my replies when I do so I've set up an ask.fm account which you can find here if you have any questions you'd like me to answer :)
