Fashionistas are excited about the upcoming Africa Fashion Week Nigeria because it’s a platform where emerging designers show off their creativity. This is especially important as many young designers don’t have the funds or backing to promote their abilities. It’s also where the well-known designers of Africa who have given their experience to ensure the show expands, are under the spotlight.

Over May 17th and 18th, expect to see established names like Jewel By Lisa, Odio Mimonet, Tiffany Amber, Lanre DaSilva Ajayi, Ituen Basi and Deola Sagoe amongst the more recently upcoming names like Virgos Lounge, Buki Akib, Anita Quansah, Okunoren Twins, Bridget Awosika and Mai Atafo.

The event is organised by Africa Fashion Week London and set to be the largest fashion affair with runway and exhibition extravaganzas, motivated by African design. Fashion from Africa is no longer only seen in Africa but on the ‘must have lists’ of the fashion conscious around the world. Unsurprisingly, African designers are contributing fresh and unique designs including stunning prints and colour combos helping to promote the ever-increasing popularity of the African textile industry.

The Intercontinental Hotel is geared up to host Africa Fashion Week Nigeria and like all the exhibitors and designers, is very conscious it’s the very first time such a massive display of Africa-inspired style and design, is to be held in Nigeria. This is where fashion seekers and style lovers get to admire the prowess of established designers and discover the talent of emerging designers from all over the African continent. As for the designers, not only do they show off their creative work in Africa but they are also seen by interested internationals because the show is attended by ‘the right people’. For more information, please visit the official website of the show.

Apart from fashion designers, Africa Fashion Week Nigeria will also be attended by other professionals connected to the fashion industry i.e. fabric manufacturers and printers, media houses, make-up artists, press, models and buyers. A convenient spin-off of this exciting fashion week is the opportunity for potential mentors, partners and backers to make contact with young designers to initiate a professional relationship. If they aren't able to attend the show, they can still contact and inform the organisers or publish a trading offer online using the classifieds on local websites.

The organisers of the show are intent on highlighting the entire spectrum of the fashion industry inspired by African design and suited to anyone interested in Africa. The whole objective of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is to highlight African inspired design and to give young talent a local and international platform to show the world just how hip African fashion is.
